Setting

The camp & the campers

Camp North Star is a secret refuge where young people with superpowers or people who are otherwise engaged in the superhuman community, can spend their summer with others who find themself in the same situation.

Campers come from many different walks of life. They have their own struggles, some of which they might not be able to share freely. At Camp North Star however, they are encouraged to let loose and make friends with other campers who might have the same struggles. Because whatever happens at camp, stays at camp.

Experienced superheroes serve as counselors for the different packs and lead campers in a friendly competition. They are ready to make this summer the best one yet at Camp North Star.

A world of wonders

Camp North Star takes place in a world where superpowers are real, and costumed heroes and villains use their powers for good, evil or their own ends. Whether these powers come from genetic mutations, arcane magic, advanced technology, freak accidents or alien physiology they are all defined as “superpowers”.

Geographically, the world is much like our own. However, many places from myth, such as Atlantis, Shambala and El Dorado, have resurfaced and become part of the global community. Likewise, science and magic have opened up new avenues of discoveries in space and in extradimensional realms.

Superheroes and their villains are public figures, plastered all over the media, however, superpowers are still relatively rare. In most cases superpowers will manifest during puberty and then develop as young people mature into adults.

Heroes & Villains

People with extraordinaries have always existed, their existence often being chalked up as myth or folklore. However, during the 1920’s a new phenomenon caught the public’s attention. Costumed crimefighters took to the streets to fight injustice and crime. Some of them possessed strange powers that gave them an edge in their crusade, others relied on their fists to deal out justice.

These mystery men soon spawned a new breed of criminals who likewise used their superpowers to cause chaos. Thus the dichotomy of superheroes and supervillains was born. Their battles became media spectacles and the participants became instant sensations.

These days heroes and villians are more regulated. Some heroes have formed sanctioned teams that face specific threats together, others work outside the system dealing out their own brand of justice. Villains on the other hand, band together to elude justice and accomplish even bigger schemes.
